I was surfing around Google videos just now and I came across this interesting video interview you really need to watch. Mark Joyner was the first person to create an online tracking solution for marketers and is an absolute expert on testing and tracking.
This video will give you a great primer in the importance of testing and tracking and how it can help you… so be sure to take lots of notes!

Testing will increase the amount of money you make from the products you sell. Even if you only increases sales by 1%. That 1% over a year can add up to extra $1,000’s in the bank.
Find that weakest part of your marketing and A/B split test this first and find out how it can be improved.
What Mark found through his own testing is that when you improve on the weakest part you can naturally improve the strongest part as a net result.
You really need to know what the average industry conversion numbers are for your industry. From this you can then figure out where the weak part is in your marketing and begin spit testing this to find something that works better and pushes up your conversions.
Another important factor in conversions is the source of your traffic. Not all traffic is created equal.
Trying different approaches is a critical factor to building a successful business, testing and tracking is part and parcel of this. Don’t let anything slow you down.
The best most robust form of split testing is to use very simple A/B testing where you test one thing against another.
Pay special attention to the video above because it’ll open your mind to some interesting insights about testing and tracking your marketing.
